BLOG PAGE STYLE #2

- This week has been an unusual one.
- Normally we have a fairly varied amount of work, but this week has been a week of upholstery.
- And not just your standard types upholstery, but the more technical and challenging types!
- For some reason it seems the population of Perth is wanting to sit on clean sofas!
- This is where more than 30 years of experience comes into play.
- We do have a bit of a specialisation in that area, so whether they be $2000 cheaper sets from Amart or $80,000 bespoke suites, we can clean and protect them all!
- Fresh Aire Carpet… and Upholstery Cleaning!!
- It’s been a month of inspections and assessments it seems.
- Travelling far and wide from Bunbury, Quinns Rock, Salter Point and now, down to Harvey.
- Many of the inspections have been for issues that aren’t actually real, simply lighting variances or improper maintenance!
- It seems many people are altogether willing to jump to the conclusion that it is a manufacturer fault and often this is backed up by the opinion of a “professional” carpet cleaner, who in reality has no experience, training or real understanding of issues at hand.
- This is where more than 30 years of experience comes into play!
- If you, or anyone you know wants to have the confidence in dealing with a company that knows their stuff and a strong ethic, make sure you put in a word for us!
- Once again. As the saying goes, the eye is easily fooled!
- Kinda funny one this week
- I was asked to inspect a carpet, all the way down in Albany.
- Rental property, recently relet and the owner inspected between tenancies.!
- According to them, it looked terrible “it’s faulty” they cried, “Only 6 months old and it’s shocking near the window, the sun has affected it!!”
- So, off I go for a 800km round trip.
- When I get there, sure enough, it looks pretty ordinary.. until I open the blinds and realise it’s just a shadow cast by the windowsill!! And changing the angle of the venetians changed the intensity and position of the discolouration!
- Yes, just a trick of the light! An expensive one at that and a very embarrassed owner!
- As the saying goes, the eye is easily fooled!
Moral of the story, not all apparent soiling is actually real!!
- If anyone has ever listened to any of my rants, one would be to do with Baking Soda
- It’s all over the internet, how great it is at solving every cleaning dilemma under the sun.
- However, put it on wool, and it’s a completely different story!
- This week, had a guy who’d dropped chilli paste on the carpet.
- So out came the supermarket cleaner. Hmmm, it’s worse!
- Internet says baking soda and vinegar – cool, let’s do it! Uh oh, it’s worse!
- “I know, let’s go to Bunnings and hire their machine and use their detergent!”
Even bigger oops, it was not wool friendly at all and now looks worse than it did, with it having gone several shades of orange-brown with a couple of bonus bleached areas to go with it! - Now looking at a possible $600-$800 repair instead of a $250 charge to deal with it in the first instance!
Moral of the story, call Fresh Aire, not Google when you strike problems with furniture or flooring!
- Had a job this week that was a little out of the way for us.
- All the way up in Burns Beach, but a largish job so we were happy to go.
- Some massive rooms, but a relatively straightforward job, just lightly soiled, good quality wool carpets.
- Upon finishing the job, I had a little chat with the customer and asked how she came by our name and number!
- “Oh, we’ve used you before, you were so good we hung on to your card!”
- Me; “But I don’t remember ever being here, it’s a bit far afield for us normally”
- “That’s because it wasn’t here, it was our old house in Bedford, 18 years ago!!”
- Seems we really did leave a good impression behind!!
- Not so nice one yesterday, elderly lady that had a little incident that led to some blood loss.
- Old, woollen bedroom carpet and the side of her bedframe had copped a spray when she accidentally cut herself.
- Her daughter of course panicked and attempted to fix the problem herself once she had her mum sorted out.
- That’s where things got interesting for me, as she had managed to make the situation even worse, succeeding in mainly spreading it and pushing it down further into the carpet than it already had been!
- But with some basic procedures and chemistry, I was able to restore the carpets to better than their former glory, as I also cleaned the rest of the room for good measure.
- You could say we’re bloody good at what we do!
- This week, a couple of interesting challenges
- First, an exclusive hair-on-hide ottoman that has a nasty odour. Bought by a billionaire customer from a respected interior designer, imported from Morrocco but with a smell that won’t go away!
- Our challenge – destinkify it!!
- Second one, a function centre in Melbourne with a scooter tyre mark on their brand new, polypropylene carpet – people seeking advice from us because they’ve tried, and their local guys are scratching their heads as to what to do with it.
- They were simply looking for some advice as to how to proceed with it.
- Just another week of some of the more out-of-the-ordinary stuff we get to do!
- 2 property Managers this week raved about Carl’s work
- One, a property being vacated by a long term tenant who the property manager had inherited. PCR showed dirty carpets throughout.
- Tenant called us in Carl duly attended and proceeded to knock the tenant’s and PM’s socks off, getting every pre-existing stain out!
- Then another where there had been a leak, and a nasty brown watermark had appeared on the carpet.
- “Do what you can” was the request, so Carl did what he was capable of and finished off with a spotless carpet.
- Account and photos sent off to the PM with the comment “Is that all??” and how she loved the photos that she could forward on to her property owner.
- Wins all around!
- Yes, we go above and beyond, don’t forget that we are more than your average carpet cleaner!
- It seems going for a 10km walk isn’t a good idea.
- At least not for one customer who did, then came home to put her feet up on her $22,000 linen couch with a glass of wine.
- …And then promptly fell asleep, knocking over her glass of wine onto the lounge suite and a cushion!
- She wakes up, panics, and gets the salt out, the soda water, the Armorall car upholstery cleaner and goes nuts!
- Needless to say, none of it worked.
- The supplier then kindly directed her to us, and she booked us in to “do what we can” – challenge accepted!
- An hour or so later I called her back in for her to inspect and the reaction was priceless… “I thought it was just going to be a waste of money having you here, I can’t believe it, I can’t even see it!”
- Oh ye of little faith! J
- Wine I can almost do blindfolded, just ask Josh Brockhurst! J J
- Just another day at work
- We had a customer this week, a repeat one.
- Not so unusual I guess, except for one single fact.
- Carl was the one who had the pleasure of doing the job and on finishing was having a little conversation with Mrs Jones (her real name!)
- She informed Carl that she had been using Fresh Aire for quite some time, in fact, since the year after she and her husband moved in – over 30 years ago!
- I inherited her when another local guy went broke and recommended me and she has been happy as Larry with our service ever since, doing her carpets at least once a year since then!
- It’s great to know that we can have that kind of loyalty, and we have a number of customers, both commercial and residential that have been with us from the very beginning!
- Try us and see why we have that loyalty factor!
