• This week we had the classic “we’ve got ourselves into a bit of bother” phone call.
• Seems a regular client had decided on taking in a fairly large rescue dog after their cat passed away.
• Beautiful dog, lovely nature (and just loooves pats!), but also a bit of a nervous disposition, which lead to a couple of largish accidents on the near-new bedroom carpet.
• Of course it’s panic stations and start finding all manner of stuff to put onto it… and simply worsen it. Scrub for all they’re worth and also physically damage the fibre, so now they’re stained, slightly bleached and physically damaged!
• So in I go, all guns blazing! I managed to get a very acceptable fix on the colour issues, the carpet just looked a little fuzzy, but still looked 100% better than when I arrived!
• Usual morale to this story; call us when you have an issue! We can definitely help in most situations and more often than not, it’s actually easier for us if it hasn’t already been played with and therefore a cheaper fix for you!

• We just love it when a customer tells us, “No, no real stains or odours to speak of.” Only to attend the job to find the carpets are one big stain with pockets of urine!! (Thanks Melody for this referral! LOL)
• Unfortunately, that’s what Ash faced this week on a large, 9 bedroom house on a 43C day!.
• But fortunately we are adaptable if nothing else, and after a discussion with the client, they gave the go-ahead for Ash to do a full restoration clean.
• Ash managed to turn what looked like a stinking cesspit into something that resembled a clean, fresh-smelling carpet with two very happy home owners!
• We aren’t called Fresh Aire Carpet Cleaning for no good reason after all!

• Another common misconception is that salt is a cure-all when you have a liquid spill. Just pour it on there and it’ll absorb all the liquid, sweet as!
• Well, the answer is yes… and no! Yes it will soak up moisture, but it can have an unintended consequence.
• You see salt is sodium chloride, or NaCl. Pretty harmless but highly reactive substance in small quantities (unless you have high blood pressure!!)
• But in the presence of ozone (O₃) it can be converted to NaOCl – common household bleach! And ozone naturally occurs in higher levels in coastal areas or during storm activity, so suddenly you can have bleach develop in that mound you threw onto your carpet!
• Not so good now, is it?
• Stains/spills – call us first! Or at the very least go to our stain removal chart on our website and stay safe!

• It seems to be a regular occurrence where we get people saying that “their Triexta carpet is faulty, it just won’t clean, the stains keep coming back”.
• The problem is not so much that the carpet doesn’t clean, it’s just incredibly hard to flush and extremely sensitive to any residues left behind.
• So you come along with your Brand X cleaner, and all that happens is that the stain appears to spread.
• It’s not spreading at all, what you are seeing are the detergent residues, which remain sticky and then rapidly resoil.
• This can happen with most carpets, but Triextas are woeful for it as they can then need multiple attempts to correct, depending upon how enthusiastic the person was in applying the detergent!
• If you have issues with your carpet or upholstery, give us a call first, you may end up saving yourself a truckload of grief!

• This week, poor Ash got called out to do some carpets and a mattress. All good, until the owner informed him that the mattress was covered with every imaginable bodily fluid from a sick person having been on it for an extended period of time
• They then expected Ash to perform miracles on it; and to be fair, he did an amazing job on it, but boy did it need some intensive cleaning!
• So this week, it’s not so much about what we can or cannot do, it’s more about advice.
• Mattresses are not a cheap commodity and we all want them to go the distance, so PLEASE, for your health as much as anything else, invest in a simple mattress protector!
• It will stop things getting through, can be washed separately, saves your mattress and your $’s as well as making our job 100x more effective!
• And not to mention how much healthier it is to sleep on a better maintained surface!
• Fresh Aire Carpet Cleaning, thinking about your health!

• Carl got called out to do an outdoor setting this week with water marks.
• “Piece of cake”, or so we thought as outdoor fabrics are designed to get wet.
• So Carl gets there, sure enough brown marks all over the fabric – and they simply won’t rinse off!
• Just plain acrylic, so this should not happen. Questioning the client – just isopropyl alcohol and Morning Fresh dishawashing liquid, nothing else!
• Just didn’t make sense!
• But then came the sheepish comment… “but the suppliers did say we can use bleach”
• Yep, that’ll do it! Bleach is highly alkaline, higher alkalinity than acrylic can tolerate and therein lay the problem.
• Want some real cleaning advice? Ask us, not somebody that just dishes out advice with no real understanding!

• We’ve had a number of very expensive lounge suites to do this week.
• Most notable one was a brand new one, not even delivered to the customer yet.
• 2 spots of unknown origin were found on a corner piece – the boss, against the advice of his workers, tried to take matters into his own hands!
• “Leave it be, call Fresh Aire”, was the plea from his staff, but of course he knew better and set about.. making it worse!
• “Replace it, the fabric’s stuffed”, was his next statement. Fortunately, his workers didn’t listen and called me instead and the marks (plus his attempt) were removed without fuss – and the customer will be none the wiser that anything ever happened!

2 customers this week that ended up in grief by doing what they thought was right!

• First, a wine stain on a linen/viscose. Poured all manner of stuff on there including salt, bicarb, store bought detergents… stain sorted and now cleaned yesterday and being protected today.
• Second, a tea stain on a protected rug that we got the blame for and consequently the worst review we’ve ever had and on multiple platforms. Turned out she flooded the area with detergent, which is what created the apparent issue. Went in and very quickly sorted it out, now we have one of the absolute best ever reviews for our amazing customer service!!!

• My cat just got sick on the carpet
  • Guess he’s not feline so good.

• Guess what my dad just yelled at the dog for peeing on the carpet?
  • Urine trouble!!!
