BLOG PAGE STYLE #2
- This week we were presented with a new challenge.
- A very high-end furniture boutique in Nedlands with lots of outdoor furniture, including 3 umbrellas.
- Covered in a myriad of spots from insects and… other flying critters!
- Very tall, very soiled and our challenge to get them clean!
- A little lateral thinking and we worked out how to safely access the tops of the umbrellas and formulate a cleaning system to get all of those little spots out.
- The boutique managers were duly impressed and will now look to refer us to their client base as well!
- Got something a little out of the ordinary? Give us the challenge, we’re always up for it!

- There is a carpet that does get sold quite a bit for both its luxurious feel and its ability to resist staining… but don’t believe the hype.
- I had one customer last week that had already had her carpet cleaned twice after her aging pup had had a wee accident.
- Both times the stain seemed mostly ok when wet, but reappeared.
- I had been called in as a warranty inspection, but knew straight away what the cause was – Triexta fibre with excessive detergent residues, mainly created when she had attempted to clean it herself and not suitably flushed afterwards!
- So lots of flushing later with a little chemistry to ensure no issues afterwards and we had a very relieved customer, not just the dog 😀

- We had a customer this week that had bought a house a few years ago, with stains already pre-existing.
- The carpets had progressively worsened over that time, with some traffic areas being almost black!
- It was a case of either we could restore the carpets to a usable condition OR they replace them.
- As usual, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!
- Yes, it was a hard slog, but the main reason they looked so bad was – a bad clean before my customer had moved in! The carpets were just loaded with detergent residue from a very poor clean, so most of what we had to do was removal of both soil and detergent left behind from the previous “clean”.
- So with the right chemistry and methodology, we were able to restore the carpet to it’s former glory… and pick up a rave review at the same time!

- Sometimes it takes a trained and/or fresh set of eyes to look at a job to work out what is really going on..
- Had a call a couple of weeks ago from a lady who’d had a bit of water damage, dealt with by another contractor.
- Once it was all done and dusted, a mark appeared, which for all intents and purposes was a bleach mark, so the contractor gave her our number for a colour correction.
- Upon looking at it, we weren’t convinced that it was a bleached area, but more a water mark.
- She was very dubious, but decided to let me do my thing, so we performed a stain removal!
- Guess who was right! And this is why we get called in, for an expert appraisal – make sure you keep us in mind if you have colour issues with your carpets!

- Had a few “oh Dear” moments this week, but one yesterday stood out.
- A customer messaged me on Sunday, appalled because she and her doggy had been visiting a friend when it disgraced itself!
- Brand new, high end wool rug, now sporting a lovely yellow mark, which they tried to clean themselves but realised that they were doing more damage than good, so a professional touch was needed.
- Hence my visit there, to find that lovely bright yellow mark on a very light grey rug.
- But luckily, they acted quickly in getting us there and the damage was limited, which urine will do to wool if left too long! But in this case, it was fully remediated, much to the relief of my customer AND her friend!
- So don’t wait, act IMMEDIATELY if you want an effective resolution of any staining issue.

- This seems to have been a recurring theme for us in the last couple of weeks.
- People calling us after accidentally drawing on the expensive leather lounge suites!
- But therein lies the problem.
- Solvent based inks such as your Bic ballpoint pens have this ability to penetrate through the pigment layer and into the leather itself.
- If this does happen to you, time is of the essence! Try to remove as quickly as possible. By the time it has been on there for a few hours, it is already becoming a deep-rooted issue – these inks are a menace on carpet and upholstery let alone leather!
- So don’t wait, act IMMEDIATELY if you want an effective resolution of the issue.

- Had a job that Carl attended this week, where a child had vomited on a wool carpet – not pleasant I know but the sort of thing we have to deal with from time to time.
- Normally these jobs are fairly straightforward for us, but in this case it turned out to be anything but!
- You see the problem was that they had already called somebody else in to “clean” the stain and to be fair, they had used some product or another to attempt it.
- Only problem was that it and their methodology was somewhat inappropriate for wool as upon Carl’s arrival, there was an abundance of detergent still trapped within the fibres.
- So Carl set about rinsing, then rinsing some more and then still more… only to find that the carpet was actually damaged from both the detergent load and agitation it had suffered at the hands of the other “tech”. Unfortunately, there was nothing more that could be done to salvage the carpet, the damage was done.
- The cost for the previous attempt: $80!
- The expertise level of the previous attempt? Nil.
- The cost to the client? They are now considering an insurance claim – but this could have been avoided had they called someone in with some sort of qualifications such as we have.
Moral of the story- cheap is often cheap for a reason and not always value!

- We’ve had a rash of inspections to do in the last week, all related to carpets not performing to expectations.
- And in each case, it was a matter of the customer’s maintenance not being up to scratch!
- It seems that people will spend plenty of hard-earned cash on carpets, but when it comes to vacuum cleaners, cheaper is better- after all, they just suck don’t they and $200 is an awful lot of money to spend on one, right?
- Wrong! A decent vac will set you back closer to the $1000 mark than the $200 mark! And stick vacs just don’t cut it on carpet!
- In each case, the customer has had to be educated, and in each case they’ve agreed that they may need something a little better!
- If you need advice on maintenance, let us know, we can give you some guidance on what you should or shouldn’t buy.

- Had an enquiry yesterday from a previous customer.
- All, good, nice to hear from returning customers as we’ve done several jobs for her.
- But one the jobs was a fabric protection, which she got given she has a large, slobbery dog vs an expensive suite.
- But she was concerned as one corner was showing signs of soiling and sent us a photo.
- As soon as I saw it, I knew exactly what it was – it was the doggo! As he was constantly walking past the corner, he was brushing against and leaving behind the oils off his coat.
- She expected that because it was protected, that it shouldn’t happen!
- Soil protectors protect, whilst it can’t stop soiling from being deposited on there, it does however make it far easier to remove! A quick little bit of education and she was better informed as to what her expectations should be!

- We’ve had a customer with the worst luck imaginable!
- He splurged and bought a beautiful quilted, wool/viscose blended fabric worth $25,000 and in the first week of ownership, dozed off on the couch with a full cup of coffee in his hand.
- That was fine, until he woke up with a start as you do. And that’s when a full cup of hot coffee and cream hit the lounge suite. Normal fabric is bad enough, but this was a thick, quilted fabric!
- Took a bit of work, but Ash and I spent 3 hours on it, getting back into a decent state gain
- Then not 4 weeks later, we get a call for the same problem! But this time, a cold cup was on the kitchen bench and it was accidentally sent flying onto… the same couch! Not as bad, smaller drops spattered over several cushions but this time Carl had the good luck to fix it, and fix it he did.
- We now have a paranoid owner of a very clean lounge suite looking to get protection as well – and not before time!
