BLOG PAGE STYLE #2
- Darren and I attended a job last week, repeat customer wanting the same job again.
- No Problems, 3 small lounge suites with some minor marks. But embarrassingly, we got a call back, saying that we missed a few spots on one settee!
- So off I went, to inspect and sort out the issue. I get there, and sure enough, there are a couple of faint marks on a wool/elastane blend fabric.
- Righto, out with my trusted spot remover and no sooner do I wet the fabric, than the mark disappears! What the…?
- So, I dry it off with a hair dryer. There’s the spot again. Dry it, and it’s back! Seems that the fabric darkens just enough when wet to hide the marks!!
- So it was a case of clean, dry and then re-inspect and make sure they’ve gone!
- Why am I telling you this? Because things don’t always go the way we want, but if they do go pear-shaped, we look after our customers! In this case she offered to pay for the extra work, but I could not in all faith bring myself to charge her; clean is what she paid for and clean was what she got!
- Fresh Aire, making sure you get value for your dollar spend!

- Prevacuuming is something we that we are required to do as per the Australian Standard AS3733 for carpet cleaning.
- Yet people often assume that their version of vacuuming of the carpet is enough – but this is rarely the case!
- Just this week, Darren had a job that he attended and as per our norm, he grabbed his trusty vacuum and set about re-vacuuming the “freshly vacuumed” carpet.
- This carpet ended up filling his vacuum 5 times over in doing 4 rooms!!
- We don’t believe in shortcutting jobs, so if you want a job done properly, Fresh Aire are the people to call!

Review
“Fabulous service. We had a couple of stains ranging from tea to tan on our Jasper lounge that were up to 3 months old; and the prognosis wasn’t good considering the time that had passed and the fabric of our couch. No guarantees were made; instead, Franco just produced results! And they smell fantastic too! Need my carpets done now …Thanks Fresh Aire Carpet Cleaning

- This week we had an unusual request to fix an issue with dye from a leather strap having transferred onto a viscose blend bedhead – nothing nefarious, just a leather handle that had rubbed against the fabric.
- Definitely something new, but once again, challenge accepted! The client was not hopeful, thinking it would never come out but the manufacturer had recommended us, so she gave us a try. Failing that, it was replacement territory.
- However, the job turned out to be fairly straightforward with a bit of lateral thinking, and I had the job done within 30 mins, much to her amazement!
- As it turned out, she had used us once before after being recommended by another furniture retailer to sort out an emergency accident for her involving a Staffy on chemo! So now she is doubly impressed
- Got any challenges, throw them our way. We’re always keen to give them a go.

- One of the things we do on a regular basis is to clean upholstery that has been delivered with marks on it.
- Our challenge is to clean these fabrics that are brand new, without creating issues on the fabric, in spite of the fact that that they are often quite fussy fibres that can be easily damaged.
- But this is something that we do excel at, considering we have been dealing with problem fabrics for a number of years now!
- Upholstery can be quite challenging, but we’re always up for it!

- Every once in a while we get a call in to clean a “stain” on the carpet. The “stain” turns out to be a bleach mark.
- Stains are where there are added colours or soiling to the fibre – bleach marks are the exact opposite; they’re colour loss. This can result from using things such as bleach or inappropriate cleaning chemicals (Oxy-powered Vanish is a classic one!)
- What needs to happen in this case is for the area to be neutralised and then the colour added back in. This is a service that very few techs in Perth are able to deliver, but one that we can!
- So, if something untoward happens to your carpet or you see someone else with the issue, let them know that Fresh Aire Carpet Cleaning can resolve it for them!

- Reporting on carpet issues for warranty claims is another thing we do.
- This week I called in to inspect a complaint of colour variances on a job. Looking at the carpet. It seemed as though one side of the join was different in colour to the other side. But, when I played around with the lighting, I could get the dark and light sides to flip from dark to light dependent upon the angle of light, which I was then able to show the customer.
- The issue is what is called “seam peaking”, where the join doesn’t sit perfectly flat. When this happens, whichever side the light is coming from appears lighter, whereas the other side appears darker as the peak is actually casting a shadow. But hold the light directly overhead, and the colour magically evens out.
- So it turned out not to be a carpet fault, but a laying issue instead!

- Yesterday, I attended a job that I’d had an emergency call on.
- Regular client, with a mischievous daughter who loves testing out her artistic skills – this time with nail polish on the staircase. Mum tried to do it herself, but just spread it! So, the call came through…
- She had done a great job of making it harder for me, but luckily once she realised what she was doing was making it worse, not better, she stopped and made the call.
- Most of it in the end turned out to be reasonably straightforward to do, so within the hour, I had the carpets looking acceptable again – along with a very relieved customer!
- Moral of the story – do as she did! Once she realised what was going on, she stopped and called an expert instead!

- This week, I had to inspect another few carpets had already been “professionally cleaned”.
- One of particular concern was a carpet that, even after having been cleaned twice, one room still had a smell of cat urine AND the new tenant was reacting badly with a rash developing all over her as she is highly allergic to cats.
- Upon inspecting, it was difficult to find as it wasn’t showing up under UV or really reacting to a moisture probe. In the end I couldn’t definitively find the urine, so instead I decided to closer inspect the carpet for evidence of fur or dander.
- I got down on my knees to inspect it visually, and suddenly got a strong waft of the smell – turns out it was in the centre of the room, which is unusual as cats normally prefer walls or corners. A quick check with the moisture meter confirmed it.
- A quick vacuum of 2m2 also netted a substantial amount of fur and dander – no wonder she was reacting!
- So now we have been asked to go in and give them a 3rd clean… a proper one this time so this poor tenant can have some relief!

- Yesterday, we were asked by a Property Manager to deodorise 1 bedroom carpet in a house. These carpets had already been “professionally cleaned”.
- No problem we said, we can sort that out and in we went. But… upon inspection, the carpets were still quite soiled throughout, with a general doggy smell to go with it.
- After a phone call with the PM, we explained our findings, which she understood ad appreciated, but given she had just inherited this property from another PM and had no budget to work with, she was stuck between a rock and a hard place.
- So, what we decided to do was to compromise and use a system that will give a reasonable amount of deodorising capacity, but at a cheaper rate than a full deodorising.
- In the end, the carpets looked far cleaner, smelled much better and were ready for the new tenant to move in the next day!
- Need someone to think out of the box? We can do that too!
