Had an issue with a carpet that came to a resolution last week

• Water intrusion in 2 rooms, 1 of them over an extended period of time
• The extended period one didn’t look so bad, until we lifted the carpet – and then we could ascertain the full extent of the damage
• It was advised that the carpet in that bedroom be replaced – we could make it look A-OK from the top, but underneath was a very different story
• The other room was just a case of a little browning and easily fixed, but in discussing with the tenant we also found out they were going to be moving out in a few weeks’ time anyway
• So my suggestion to the PM was to wait for the tenant to move out and combine the cleaning and repair work into the one job
• This way the tenant wasn’t inconvenienced with us trying to do our restoration work whilst still living there, we could charge the landlord less as we would already be there cleaning for the tenant, we would waste less time and everyone would end up a winner!

• Had a fun one just yesterday
• Grandmothers house, with a couple of issues
• Daughter and granddaughter had both stayed the night, as daughter was having a night out, first one in 17months since bub was born.
• So she gave it a good shove, and had enough red wine… problem was, it was more than enough and she… ahem.. “leaked” some rather rapidly and unintentionally onto the bedroom carpet.
• Granddaughter, not to be outdone, decided to come down with a gastro bug and proceeded to ejaculate her abdominal contents at a rather furious rate all over the theatre room carpet.
• From there it was panic stations, with bicarb and baby wipes coming into play, along with some touching expletives from mum/grandma!
• That’s where I was called in, to come and sort out the resultant mess, which ended up with the review “Extremely happy with the service and cleaning”

• Looks like we are gonna have a couple of days off this week, sitting back, relaxing…

• Carl and I will actually be off the road for two days this week, undergoing more training! Never too old to learn!

• Week after week I carry on about people trying to fix things themselves.
• This week was no exception with a beautiful 8-month-old wool carpet in a high-end Floreat apartment.
• Their dopey dawg had eaten some grass at the local park and proceeded to redeposit it onto their bedroom carpet in two areas
• They bought an “Oxy” supermarket product, which on many an occasion I had seen take colour out of carpet
• This time, it hadn’t, but it did leave quite a nice discolouration on the carpet – essentially chemical residues
• It was a fairly straightforward job in the end, but just shows that adding chemicals to a “stain”, just adds more stuff in – but where does it go?
• Answer is nowhere! It’s all still in the carpet! So unless you have an extraction machine, its all still in there!
• Sometimes, it pays to spend money to save money!

• What’s the lifeblood of any business?
• Repeat customers!
• Without them, it becomes a very expensive business to run if you need to keep on buying customers!
• But we are proud to say that we do get a great rate of happy, returning customers, as well as referrals from those customers.

• Got asked this week to report on a rusting door frame
• Doing for a Property Manager who wanted to take builder to court over a rusting door frame.
• Their claim: it was a building issue.
• Builder: it was a urine issue
• My report; unfortunately for the PM, the builder was right. Using my UV light and moisture detector, it didn’t take long to realise that there was urine contamination.
• Lifting the carpet, it became very obvious, both from the physical evidence and the *ahem* odour!
• Urine is hygroscopic, so remains wet forever. Because of this, long term contact with the door frame had caused it to rust. This was a very small amount, done a very long time ago (my estimate over 2 years) but it had caused damage!
• So to those that think “Oh it’s only a little bit of puppy pee”, well that puppy has legs and will go the distance, causing considerable damage in the long term.
• Moral of the story? Attend to it immediately, don’t wait for it to become an issue

• Took some trainees out on a job last week
• Job off Facebook recommendation
• Basically picked me because the comments said I “knew my stuff” and that I “train others”
• So, I turn up with two trainees in tow and proceed to check out her $10,000 sofa in intimate detail, finding the fibre type, asking about the soiling on it, getting as much background as possible and only then deciding on the “how” before commencing the clean.
• I also explained her fabric, it’s foibles and why we were going to do what we did.
• And most impressed she was, leaving a review saying:
• Franco and his team recently cleaned my sofa. Franco displayed a great knowledge of materials, was extremely friendly and professional and did a fantastic job.
• She even said to me as we finished up that I lived up to the hype my supporters had handed out!
• So yes, we do it right, in the best way for the job after identifying all variables.

• Oh CRAP!
• Yes, sometimes that’s exactly what we think when we see our job
• And sometimes, its actually what we deal with!
• Take last Saturday, with poor Carl having to attend a job with… well you can guess what I’m talking about.
• Bad enough that he had to deal with that, but someone had attempted to clean it and managed to just spread it
• Whilst it’s gross enough to be almost comical, it’s also very sad for those involved, and does take a modicum of understanding and reassurance on our behalf that the problem will be remediated without fuss or fanfare!
