BLOG PAGE STYLE #2
Another good job this week, involved a full 3-litre bottle of milk hitting the floor.
Obviously, they realised they had a problem, so they called a carpet cleaner, who set about doing the best he could.
His best turned out to be pretty ordinary, so they got him back again, only to find that the carpet was no better and now starting to show signs of damage.
Google to the rescue… to good effect for once as they looked up a local business with some experience, which turned out to be us!
Went to have a look at the job, looked bad but was actually quite straightforward. Had it sorted in no time flat!
One very happy customer, and a great review to boot

Another inspection of interest this week
Brand new build in Trigg, complaint of colour variation. Sure enough, when I get there you can see a massive difference from one side of the seam to the other
To the layman’s eye, it’s a colour issue
To my eye, it was a laying issue known as “seam peaking”
A seam not perfectly flat will cast a shadow on the side away from the light source, but you can change the “dark side” by changing the angle of light
So not a carpet fault, but a laying issue. Win for the manufacturer, groans from the layer who now has to redo the seam!
Got a carpet issue to report? Franco is your man!
Had a great job recently
Client in City Beach, putting their home on the market. Expansive house massive amounts of carpet
Bleach marks everywhere from trying to keep up with an incontinent old puppy
The salesperson said, “Just replace the carpet…” Yeah right, $25,000!!
We managed to redye all of the bleached areas for $3500. Winners and grinners all around!

Was called in by a manufacturer re a warranty claim last week, oily spots appearing on carpet.
Allegedly marks had appeared on their own, worsening over time. This problem was also apparent in the back room, but I noticed the start of it in the front room!!
Sure enough, felt oily, but I wasn’t convinced it was oil. A quick test with water showed me it was water-soluble – can’t be oil!
The moisture meter went off the scale, indicating hygroscopic substance – detergents!
Asked the question and sure enough – she’d spot cleaned, using Preen DO NOT USE!
Testing less obvious spots in the front room – the same result! It looked different due to different fibre content.
So not a carpet issue, a maintenance issue. It has since been booked in to fix and been resolved.
THIS WEEK we seem to have come across a few people that have either been trying to do things themselves or tried the budget approach, i.e. trying to minimise their costs.
In the current climate, I can fully understand that, however in many cases, this doesn’t reduce costs, just adds to them!
Using Google remedies are quite often a recipe for disaster, as is looking on Gumtree for the cheapest carpet cleaner – they’re usually cheap for a reason and right now, probably a good way to spread contaminants such as the Coronavirus from one property to another.
So if you know people currently working from home and have that “accident” that is bound to happen at some point, especially if kids are home as well, then keep your ear out for those words, “MY HOUSE IS A MESS” and pass them my details
Had a job, courtesy of BNI Springboard and Andrew Farron from ORE.
Camper trailer that had been leaking for 4 months, sold and opened up for new owner, only to find that the inside was lovely and furry – but not from fur… MOULD!!
Challenge was to remove the mould as well as its growing medium and render it inhabitable by its new, asthmatic owner!
Challenge accepted as I have a new product that I wanted to test out on it. The guys at ORE weren’t confident I’d be able to restore the carpets and mattress, but an intensive treatment on the mattress resulted in a marked improvement and a very happy Andrew, who was sweating on it as the sale had been compromised.
So if you know of anyone readying their caravan/camper for this coming summer season keep us in mind.
Had one of my peers contact me last night
One of his customers was having an issue with a rug
Wool Viscose meets baking soda, good ol’ Google to rescue
Rug now has a rather nasty patch after neat vinegar and baking soda was used
Colour restoration set to cost them $500 on a 6-month-old $1200 rug
Getting to be an expensive rug!
The moral of the story, is call Fresh Aire, not Google when you strike problems with furniture or flooring!
Had a job where someone had a large rug that kept moving around. They decided taping was the way to go. It worked – but left a residue behind…
We cleaned it – but the person couldn’t budge it! But we could!
We managed a 90% removal apart from one edge that copped a lot of sunlight, which was caused oxidisation of adhesive, leading to BHT yellowing.
Unfortunately, this was permanent! So wasn’t a great idea after all.
Fresh Aire Carpet Cleaning, fixer of bad ideas and all things carpet
We regularly get asked to clean stains out – but sometimes they’re just spots.

So, what’s the difference?
Spots are simply something foreign to the carpet, something physically bonded to the fibres, Stains have undergone a chemical bonding so have created a change in the fibre. You can clean all day, and all you’ll end up with is a clean stain!
Spots are relatively easily moved by simple physics. Stains require the use of specialised chemistry and processes – and not always for the weak-hearted, can be quite challenging to get a good outcome
So, if you have stains that simply won’t cleanout, we are the ones to call – use us instead of Google to get the result you are looking for!
We cleaned a viscose theatre setting yesterday.
Whoopee I can hear you saying.
Except that this a suite with a price in the tens of thousands and a fibre that is super fussy – loses 70% of its strength when wet, needs grooming after any cleaning or any tooling marks will be permanent. In fact, a fellow carpet cleaner just ruined a similar one after following the manufacturers’ guidelines to a “T” – even the manufacturer didn’t know how bad it is!
But we have a pretty good idea, so nose to the grindstone yesterday, Carl and I 4 hrs to clean it!
