Specialty cleaning

• Last Friday evening we had a job to do at the head office a large, well-known corporation.
• Nothing that interesting about that you might think, apart from the fact that the carpets and rug we were dealing with were valued in the hundreds of thousands!
• The reason we were there was due to having been recommended to remove a coffee stain some months before. The powers that be were impressed enough that they asked us to return and do a full clean on their prized wool/viscose blend carpets.
• Never one to shy away from a challenge, I said sure and booked Darren and myself to go in and get the job done.
• Several hours later, we emerged with a job well done, their carpets gleaming and smelling fresh again!
• This is the type of thing we enjoy, challenges that many others will walk away from or not have the technical expertise to do.

Oh dear

• Had another one of those moments this week where my reaction was “Oh dear!”.
• My customer had been down to the river with the dog, said dog had a ball but swallowed a lot of river water in the process!
• Upon returning home, the poor pup’s stomach was obviously brimming with too much river water, and up it came along with breakfast!
• Panic mode ensued and out came an aerosol carpet spray, soda water, then after Googling the good ol’ bicarb, vinegar and some other generic carpet “cleaner” were all employed.
• So what I had was a mess to deal with!!
• No promises were given as she had gone to town on this very expensive, woollen carpet, but I did manage to get a result that they were very happy with!
• Not a 100% result as there was some damage to the carpet, but at least it was to the point that unless you were looking for it, you couldn’t see it, so happy days!

Home remedies

• This week I had a customer that had had an incident with a friend splashing a cup of coffee all over his beautiful wool carpet in his Cottesloe home.
• Both he and his mate had attempted to fix it themselves but instead of a good result… you guessed it, it looked terrible!
• They had decided that some dishwashing liquid was the way to go, and this in fact saved them!
• Because it is designed for you to have your hands in, it’s also quite gentle on wool, so whilst it looked rather ordinary, it was just a case of a deep rinse, with a little colour correction to remove the tannins from the coffee.
• So, what could’ve been a nasty job, turned out to be quite straightforward for a change.

Mystery spots

• Had a job yesterday where a family had left home over Xmas for a 2-week holiday, but when they came back, there were a number of “Mystery Spots” throughout one bedroom.
• Nobody seemed to know exactly what had happened or what may have possibly caused it.
• But this is something we often come up against, mysterious stains on carpets that no person has an idea of!
• Because of this, we have ways and methods to get around it and this is what I did to work on these stains as well, achieving a great result for my customer!

Errrrk, Dirty!!

• We had a case of an extremely soiled carpet with all manner of stuff in there including such niceties as coffee, food, alcohol and our favourite, urine!
• There were plenty of other unidentifiable things in there to go with the mix!
• But, as usual, it was just another day at the office for us. Identifying fibre type, construction style and soiling types, then choosing chemistry and methodology meant that what was a tragic-looking carpet to start with, was now a fresh-smelling, stain-free carpet that anyone would be happy to roll around upon!
• Yes, they looked awful, but a bit of knowledge and a dash of experience means that we have many options available to us to set things right again!

• Another thing we get to do from time to time is to take crush marks out of carpets for manufacturers or retailers.
• These crush lines generally happen due to incorrect storage/transportation.
• In this case this week, I had a room full of high-quality, loop-pile wool carpet with crush marks through the whole room.
• The owner didn’t hold much hope, but I informed him that I have performed this job many times, in fact the machine I have is dedicated to doing just this type of work!
• An hour and bit later, I called him back into the room. The surprise on his face was worth the effort! The carpets were restored to their pristine state, which meant they would not all have to be replaced, much to his and the manufacturer’s relief.

• Ah, dogs, a man’s best friend. But the wife’s nightmare!
• I had a job today that the wife told me had been peed on several times by their dog, and now, when friends visited, their dogs kept doing the same.
• She showed me the general area on the far side of the room and said, “It’s just around here”.
• Wanting to believe her but knowing that it’s rare to be “just in that area”, I brought out the trust UV light and found it to be there as she suspected, but also beside the couch and in a long trail leading to the entry!
• She was quite shocked, but absolutely wanted it corrected, which is what I set about doing and 90mins later, I had a carpet that smelled and looked significantly better!
• Had she not have wanted me to do it, just cleaning (as she’d initially asked for) would not have taken care of it; in fact it would have made it worse by getting moisture onto it!
• Urine is one of those jobs that you either do properly, or don’t do it at all! And also is another one of out fields of expertise.

• This week presented me with a job that was one of sentimental value.
• It was a 40 year old, polyester/cotton Jacquard lounge suite that the hubby had bought when he moved out of home.
• His wife wasn’t so keen on it, so the boys had inherited it when they left home, but now they no longer wanted it.
• But he just couldn’t let go of it – it was a major purchase for him back in the day and held too many memories, so he brought it back to their new home, much to his wife’s dismay!
• She had reluctantly agreed, but only on the condition that it got a clean – its first one in its entire existence and to be fair, it was showing it!
• My challenge: make it look presentable. Challenge accepted!
• This was an easy one for me, given I’d cut my teeth on doing similar ones when I started 36 years ago, so I ripped into it and I have to say, I was pleased with my efforts, as was my customer!
• No matter the age, we’ll make sure to take care of your cherished possessions!
